growing dome harvests and insights / gallery of the dome's construction - in 2007 a growing dome was built to provide year-round fresh produce in our northeast temperate climate, in an exceptionally clean, protected environment and inspiring geodesic space... a growing dome is the most energy efficient and advanced greenhouse kit available, with solar powered undersoil heating and cooling, durable polycarbonate glazing, water tank for optimum heat regulation, automatic opening window vents that are heat activated and require no electricity, north wall reflectix insulation for even light reflection and balanced heating / cooling, and an insulated perimeter wall and foundation... the dome comes as a kit, and includes all primary components needed for construction - the remaining basic, locally available parts are obtained by the builder in order to minimize shipping and energy use... it was constructed by us - planted - and we have been enjoying fresh organic heirloom greens, vegetables, and herbs throughout each season with total continuity since then...

raised beds - experimental gardens - wildflower cultivation - trees - native ecology... there are several outdoor locations for growing vegetables, herbs, and a wide variety of perennial plants (berries, flowers, ferns, ground covers, bushes, trees, etc.)... the basic guidelines above form a simple, yet comprehensive overview of key factors for growing your own outdoor vegetable garden - preparing, planting, caring, and harvesting the fruits of this labor of love - with more to come on restoring and optimizing the native balance in a local environment / landscape by identifying plants, cultivating native species, and dealing with invasives

these 'growing galleries' are not only about people growing plants and the physical aspects of that endeavor, but of plants growing whole people (how we use those life giving energies) and metaphysical subjects as well - growing, as a whole - always starts very small - humble beginnings - knowing nothing, and doing the best one can in any given situation, at any given moment, with what one has - which can often be very challenging, unclear, undefined - learning how to do things, learning from mistakes, being content to learn and not being too judgemental of, or lustful for results - being patient, practicing discipline, improving - sometimes very slowly, sometimes in quantum shifts - finding solutions, understanding and accepting our position as students and caretakers of this good earth, knowing we are part of a much bigger picture, and ultimately trusting in that which provides the totality of experience for all

these galleries chronicle the growth of plants, people, landscapes, architecture, skill, knowledge, insight, and wisdom as one synchronous movement... seasonal cycles in a space we call home, which have provided an eduction of immeasurable value right in our own back yard... we live on very rocky clay-rich terrain amongst many many trees, and rather than delete a large portion of them, all growing has been done without full sun in less-than-optimum conditions (what has been referred to as 'gardening where the sun don't shine') - this has yielded a great deal more than anticipated and could be greater still, with continued time and effort, but essentially all experiments have been highly successful and rewarding - most especially where education is concerned... these galleries are a record to reference when needed, illustrating an adventure, telling a story and setting a tone through an artistic holistic approach to living - a digital reflection of a natural process to guide, encourage and inspire us to embrace the challenge - keep a focus - cultivate an ability, to sustain a center - firmly grounded, and cosmically attuned

to browse chronologically through the whole database, start * here * with the most recent entry, or * here * for the earliest entry... each year starts at 01, the beginning - clicking 'next set' takes you forward in time and 'previous set' takes you backward... while this is a photographic log, an element of animation is intended, watching spaces and structures evolve change and grow over a duration, going from idea to reality, and back to idea again... its a data base of weather, patterns, plants, seasons, reasons for being thankful to be alive right now... enjoy!
